Kevin's Log - October 27, 2000

OK, update, right.
The Iceberg Arena is done for all practical purposes. There may be some tweaking and it needs its effects and hazards, but its meshes and environment are stable and ready to go and they play well. No solid concepts done on Chronos other than the things Rob laid out for me. I plan to do some tweaking to the skins that are done so far. I am considering doing some serious work on the Pyros model but I have to run that by Rob first. Concepts for Chronos need to be done but we already have a lot of content done for Pyros and I am a little uneasy with the mesh we have, so I am going to run it by him.
I did some tweaking on the Force paint job and that looks better. This week has been a real struggle. Most if not all of the problems we have had this week have to do with the build server and a little stupid time issue that is just amazing to me.
Edgar set up a machine that can get the most current code and compile it for me then it copies it over to my machine so that I have the most up to date code all the time. Well this idea is awesome and now that it works it is pretty cool. But all week the build server had a different time than my machine so it was not always compiling the newest code for me and I was constantly stuck waiting for things I needed. It was infuriating. Turns out all that needed to be done were to have a little program on each machine that synchronizes the time once a day. It’s as Simple as that. To think of all the cussing and stomping that caused is just amazing. Edgar added some really useful tools this week that rock inside the editor. The ability to see meshes textured with wire frame layover inside the editor is supering useful. Thanks again Edgar. The H.U.D. is up and working. Of course the code has been there for a long time, Rob just hid it for a while. The damage system is intact also. It wont be long until we are playing full out games against each other instead of just running around and hitting each other. I want to work out some ideas for the H.U.D. I have. Well the trade off for a weekly update is that the updates are shorter and less exciting. So until next week.
