Wayne's Log - September 03, 2003

Yeah, I think it was the coffee. Why am I here at DE? The coffee. We have, by far, the most awesome
coffee that you will ever find in a single person's making. It isn’t Starbucks, its just dang close
(to be honest, I think I like this better). I’m not usually a coffee drinker but I sat down at my desk
and had a few cups while working through some code and I may have to make it a more regular part of my
morning routine. My penchant for random mutterings now satisfied, I think ill move on...
The game is progressing nicely, most of the content in "tweaking" stage with Juan and Kevin working on the odds and ends of balancing and polishing. Some Singleplayer tournaments getting finished and tweaked. Very soon, it will be down to the uber-bug-fixing stages where all the team does for a couple week is hammer out those bugs dead in prep for gold master. That’s right, I said it. Gold Master. Does the thought just give you a chill? Thousands of man-hours of work finally culminating in a single plastic disk, misnomer-ed gold despite its usually glass or high-grade plastic nature.
On the publishing side, the hype machine is revving up, barbara is getting ready to pop the clutch and stomp the gas pedal on the review copy process so the world can see just how rear-kicking awesome this game is. Its starting to come together. Over the past few days, we have been checking some other games sites and our community just blows others away. It is this core of awesome, rear kicking, die hard fans that will help carry this franchise forward, which will see the future projects and will drive this title through the roof, much like they did with 2097.
Speaking of our community, I have an opportunity. I need one or two people who are reasonably good at technical writing. They must be at least high school age with good English skills, reasonably experienced with gaming and computers, willing to commit some time to writing some information for the Frequently Asked Questions and Knowledge Base areas of the One Must Fall support site. These individuals will receive some FREE One Must Fall Merchandise for solid contribution and additionally will be credited on any articles or FAQs that they contribute to the system. Additionally, they may receive an email address at support.omf.com if they want to continue to help! Interested? Drop me an email at wayne@omf.com with the subject "Support Writing" and include a writing sample in either plain-text, Microsoft Word, or HTML format. Samples dealing with computer- or game- related subjects would be best. Explanatory text preferred.
Oh, and I am working on a download system for the support site. We will be providing a download index for patches, game files, and other materials possibly to include gameplay guides and modifications down the line. If anyone is aware of a decent download manager in PHP with a MySQL backend that they like or have used in the past, I am certainly open to suggestions in addition to the ones I am looking at. This will be a community site so community Input is great.
In other news, I hate SoBig and all of its variations. That bug has annoyed me more than blaster even though I don’t think it is quite Nimda-class. I think Nimda was the mother of all corporate viruses. Anyone else get SoBig blasted (try 1000 emails a minute running through your mail server, its pretty harsh)? Let me know and I
